Community & Partners Update
Heating and Eating Event at Slade Community Centre on 14th April 2022

As a result of a successful funding application to the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Together for Winter funding pot Home-Start Greenwich will be hosting a Heating and eating event that will have the presence of  Service providers such as SELCE and GCDA providing help and information to support parents with the current fuel crisis and as well as healthy eating support and advice.

In addition, the event will have stands occupied by Service Providers such  CACT and Public Health (Royal Borough of Greenwich) who will be sharing information on the Healthy Start digital system, the Community Hub and the healthy lifestyle programmes that they run in Greenwich.  The Job Centre  will also be present offering Employment support to families and benefit advice around Universal Credit/JSA/ESA/Income Support.
 

The event will have:Tutorials/presentations on how to cook healthy nutritious low-cost meals.Advice and guidance on low-cost energy efficiency measures, grants and discounts. Introductions to food growing opportunities in the Borough.Benefits and job search adviceAccess to health lifestyle programmes Activities will include:

Smoothie Bar – opportunity for children to make and taste smoothies using fresh fruit etc

Cutting & Sticking Fruit Plates (Parental  Supervision)

Planting Sessions (supervised digging and  planting seeds) children can take home a pot to plant in their own gardens or into larger pots, as well as planting and growing in the Slade allotment area . Information sheets to be given to parents and signposting to community growing schemes if enjoyed (leaflets available to support this).  “Cress Head” home growing kits to be given out.

There will also be a passport style booklet – so children get a stamp and/or sticker after each activity that they have participated in.
 
 
Please remember to let all your parents know that this event will be taking place and that there will be one free meal for every family that attends. Giveaways on the day will include home growing kits, recipe and ingredient bags and some other free goodies!
